Steps
Preparation
Divide the ground beef into four equal portions (approx. 75g per patty). Form them into thin patties, slightly larger than your bun, as they will shrink during cooking. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper. Prepare your vegetables: slice the onion and tomato, and separate the lettuce leaves.
Cook Patties
Heat a little vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Place the patties in the skillet (two at a time if all four don't fit). Cook each side for 2-3 minutes until a nice crust forms and they are cooked through. In the last minute, place a slice of cheese on each patty and cover the skillet to allow the cheese to melt beautifully.
Toast Buns
Remove the cooked patties from the skillet and set aside. Halve the burger buns and toast them cut-side down in the remaining fat in the skillet until golden brown and slightly crispy, about 1-2 minutes.
Assemble Burger
Spread ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise on both halves of the toasted buns to your liking. Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, followed by a tomato slice and onion. Add the first cheesy patty, then the dill pickle slices, and finally the second cheesy patty. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately!
Extra Tips
► Don't overwork the burger patties, as they will become dry. The less you handle them, the juicier they will remain.
► Toast the buns in the rendered fat from the patties for extra flavor.
► Experiment with different cheeses and sauces to find your favorite combination!
