Steps
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine the lukewarm milk with sugar and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the yeast is activated and foamy on top.
Knead Dough
Sift the flour into a large bowl, add the salt, then pour in the activated yeast mixture and vegetable oil. Knead the dough by hand or with a stand mixer for at least 8-10 minutes until it's smooth, elastic, and no longer sticky.
First Rise
Form the dough into a ball, place it in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Shape & Second Rise
Turn the risen dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide it into 10 equal portions. Shape them into round buns or elongated rolls, then place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover again and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake Rolls
Preheat your oven to 190°C (170°C for convection). Brush the risen rolls with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds, if using. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Let them cool on a wire rack.
Extra Tips
► You can use lukewarm water instead of milk if you prefer dairy-free rolls.
► The dough is perfect when it no longer sticks to your hands but remains soft and elastic.
► Experiment with toppings: poppy seeds, caraway seeds, or coarse salt also work wonderfully!
